Guatemala
Primary Purpose
Faith Community Church as partnered with Proyecto Fe (Spanish for “Project Faith”) to bring the word of Salvation through Jesus Christ to those primarily in impoverished and oppressed third world countries. Through this partnership, members are able to serve the poor, primarily through participation in a Child Sponsorship Program, Short Term Mission Trips, and/or Financial Contributions.
Contributions are used to serve the Mayan Indians through the education of children, emergency disaster relief, providing for special needs of qualified individuals, pastors and missionary support and assisting in the construction of: schools, churches, orphanages and elder housing.
Parent Agency
Proyecto Fe (Project Faith International) is an Alaskan based ministry serving Mayan Indians mainly in the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala. We provide the opportunity for individuals to participate in God’s work through Child Sponsorship, Short-term Mission Trips, Pastor and Missionary Support & Financial Contribution for programs. Please visit the Proyecto Fe website for more information at www.proyectofe.org and see below for the recently completed and future Proyecto Fe projects.
How Can I Get Involved?
Child Sponsorship
For $28 per month, you can help a child in Guatemala receive a high quality Christian education. More importantly, you will be able to impact a child’s life and reflect Christ to a child in need. In Guatemala, as in other non-western countries, education is not free. $28 dollars a month is less than half the cost of a child’s education in Guatemala, but a full education cost per child is more than what most parents can afford to cover in full. My subsidizing the education costs, you are able to help a child receive a high quality Christian education at minimal cost to the parent. Mayan Indians are considered second class citizens by most Guatemalans, in a third world country. The correspondence that you have with your sponsor child will touch your heart & greatly enrich the self esteem of a Mayan child.
Short-Term Mission Trips
Proyecto Fe provides opportunities, several times a year, for Faith Community Church members to participate in God’s work by being “helping hands” at one of the mission field locations in Guatemala. Members provide the cost of their airfare, travel insurance, in country expenses and to contribute to the cost of the project that the team is working on. Roughly the participation cost is about $1,500 - $1,800 (all inclusive), depending on the variable cost of the individual trip. Generally, expenses incurred in association of volunteer work with a non-profit organization are tax deductible on an individual’s tax return. Please consult your tax preparer to see if the total cost of mission trip participation is deductible.
Church members have helped with:
- Construction of schools, churches, homes & an elder housing project.
- Clean, fluoride & provide dental assistance to both the children & locals in San Pedro, La Laguna, Solola, Guatemala.
- Teach children English or other subjects at Evangelico Colegio Bethel School.
- Visit orphanages and group homes for special needs children.
- Be general “helping hands” where needed, and there is always a need. Participants are never asked to do more that what they are physically able and there is a need for all ages at any level of physical abilities. We do not discourage participation by age or physical abilities.
Opportunities exist to directly participate in FCC short term mission trip to serve the needs of this ministry. Applications will be screened. If you are interested, please contact the Field Coordinator.
