ACC 4F Update- a Tragedy Again in the Village and Prayer
Dear Friends Across the World,
My heart is heavy tonight as our dear friends in Scammon Bay are mourning the loss of one child and the other has not been found as they have begun to dredge the river. The parents, John and Carolyn Utteryuk are leaders in our church there and their pastor Jon Cardwell also needs our prayers as he and this small Eskimovillage deals with such a tragedy which we see too often in our remote villages.
Let me add our requests for prayer for the following at ACC:
Freshmen- We are in the height of our recruiting season with still many undecided students and many who have made the sure commitment. Our students traditionally don’t make final decisions until just before school begins. Pray for Scott Pitsch, our Dir. of Admissions, as he has much to do in these final weeks. Pray also for funding for returning students (up to 16), many who have yet to find enough funds to return this fall.
Faculty- We are excited to add this picture of Jeff and Cheryl Siemers to our attachments! Deb and I were privileged to join 17 others from AK in Maine for the wedding right after my graduation from the doctoral program at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. We continue to seek for a bookkeeper, business manager, additional facilities staff, and a female RA for the coming year.We also sadly say farewell to Andrea Corens, our Dir. of Student Life for the past 2 years who is also getting married in MN this month and concludes her ministry with us. She is marrying a great Anchorage guy- Adam Wilson, and will be living and ministering there. Pray please for these transitions and openings in our ministry!
Facilities- SOS!! We need to Support Our Sheetrock! We received a giftof hundreds of sheets for our basement of the new dining hall to accommodate 9-12 additional staff and students but need a very excellent mud and tape person. If you know of anyone who can give us a week or longer, we can provide room and board and many walls to do their sculpturing on. Our goal is to be completed with the basement by Aug. 26 when our new students arrive. We have 4 more work teams coming yet believe we will need more workers. Are you or your church able to join us?
Finances- Pray for the summer “slump” of contributions given to ACC. With many large obligations still before us this month and unknowing how we will meet them, we trust God for His provision. Many of you are not on our newsletter list with many great testimonies and stories of God’s greatness to us and our ministry. Please send us your address at mail@akcc.org to be added andrespond to our summer appeal. You can also have us electronically deduct your gift from your checking account if you wish, give on our website with paypal, or send a gift in the postage paid envelope included. Thanks for your contributions.
To close, I offer this prayer and ask you to join me- “Our Father, we don’t understand tragedy fully but you do and we look to you for strengthfor our Alaska Christian family and especially for the Utteryuks,John and Carolyn, theirother children, and the village and pastor of Scammon Bay. Bring peace, consolation, and moments of even joy to your people there tonight. We know you love us and we trust you tonight also for ACC and its vision and needs- In Christ’s Holy Name, Amen.
