Russia/Shelehov

How do you bring healing to a nation?

Our neighbors in Russia have suffered generations of religious, political, social and economic disaster. God has uniquely connectedus with them in a partnership that has brought healing and wholeness to our dear brothers and sisters.

You teach by example.

Russian friendsGod has provided many opportunities for members of the church to meet with our friends in Russia for mutual encouragement and instruction. This has forged many strong relationships as husband and wife teams teach about marriage, youth leaders conduct joint Russian-American outreach efforts, and FCC Church leaders meet with Russian pastors for mutual instruction. In the course of our partnership with the church in Shelehov, we have also assisted in the construction of their new church building, which they built with their own hands. The building stands as a testimony to our partnership and to the dedication of the believers in Shelehov.

Our partnership is helping to strengthen the Russian church by assisting local pastors deal with the practical aspects of ministry.

How Can I Get Involved?

Pray: The needs in Russia are great. Wintertime temperatures are frequently colder than Alaska, and cost of living is very high. The Russian Far East, like many places in Alaska, has a high rate of alcoholism. Churches there often fight among themselves. In many ways, they’re not unlike ourselves. Pray for our brothers and sisters as they work to be a light to their neighbors.

Give: This ministry is supported by the donations of ministry partners just like you who have a heart for the work, whom God has called to help on a one-time or regular basis. If you wish to help, place your contributions in offering containers at FCC, and mark them “Shelehov Ministry”. The funds will go directly to the Shelehov ministry account. If you prefer, funds can be mailed directly to the Mission Department at FCC, at the following address:

Faith Christian Community

Be sure to write “Shelehov Ministry” in the memo portion of your check.

Go: Numerous opportunities exist to travel to Shelihov and perform all manner of ministry tasks. Each project is different, and may range from simply encouraging our ministry partners, to teaching on church leadership, alcoholism, or family values. Opportunities exist to work with children as well. Applicants will be screened. If you are interested, contact Rick and Carolyn Rios for details on upcoming projects.
